Hello friends,
We have arrived in January, hopefully in one piece. Did anyone else feel like the end of 2023 was a bit bumpy? Feel free to share any reflections in the comments. I would love to know.
Anyway, it is always exciting to enter a new year, but I am doing so without any goals or intentions. Yes, I have some projects and ideas stirring, but my motto right now is “2024..Let’s just see what happens!” Scrolling through Instagram one morning recently, I snorted my coffee through my nose as I came across a post by #dudewithasign which read, “2025 will be my year!” Ha!
I am taking that approach and looking at the year ahead as an incubator for change, allowing new projects and ideas to take root. It will be a time for me to focus on family relationships and reflect on the past. (Possibly, (possibly!) sorting and organizing the thousands of pictures on the my phone and finally putting them into albums. Don’t hold me to it, but be sure to cheer me on.)
Now for some housekeeping.
One thing I know—I love Substack. If you don’t have the app on your phone, I highly recommend it. Instead of going to other social media sites, I would come here first. There is some exceptional (free and paid) content here and I am finding it way more nourishing than other sites.
So, I am excited to continue to share my content here and build community in this space. If you are new, here is a little more info about this site:
What is Her Deepest Ecologies?
I am glad you asked. This has been an evolving question for me and, going into 2024, I have a new answer.
Land Literacy: I will be sharing short, creative pieces about the places I visit and my work on our small farm. I also will reflect on “land stories” in the news and how I am processing environmental change & grief in my life and work.
Ecological Writing Prompts: Every other week I will offer a new writing prompt (for free!). These will be coming from my in-person writing group at Village Books in Bellingham. We meet there on the 2nd and 4th Wed at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome Feel free to follow along here on online.
The Podcast: I published the last episode of Her Deepest Ecologies-The Podcast in November. You can listen to all 8 episodes here or on Apple Podcasts. Season 2, Part 1 coming in April 2024!
That is the update for now! I will be posted the first writing prompt of the year in a few days. Stay tuned…
If you missed it I have a short Op-Ed in the Seattle Times about hope. Maybe this is something you have been thinking about as well?
Take care!
